As Europe transitions towards a greener, hydrogen-based energy future, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and
integrity of H2 pipelines is a critical challenge. Welding inspectors will play a central role in this transition,
so current Vocational Education and Training (VET) programmes must change to meet the growing industry demands.
The INSPIRE project — "Modularization of the Welding Inspector Profile to Respond to the Needs Emerging from Hydrogen
Programmes towards a Greener Europe" — is a groundbreaking Erasmus+ initiative. INSPIRE modernizes the European Welding
Inspector (EWI) qualification, integrating modular training and innovative digital technologies such as Augmented
Reality (AR). By bridging education and industry, INSPIRE is preparing the workforce for the hydrogen sector and ensuring a sustainable,
high-quality pipeline infrastructure across Europe.
INSPIRE’s core mission is to align VET with industry needs by introducing flexible, digital, and high-quality training for
welding inspectors specializing in H2 pipelines.
