INSPIRE: Presentation at IIW Annual Assembly 2026 in Salzburg

INSPIRE - Revolutionising Training in Welding Inspection for Hydrogen Pipelines will be part of the 79th International Institute of Welding Annual Assembly 2026 in Salzburg.

On 15 July, the project will contribute to Commission XIV - Education & Training with a presentation on how welding inspection training can respond to the emerging demands of hydrogen infrastructure. The contribution will show how these new competence needs are being translated into a modular training pathway for inspection professionals.

Two new Competence Units will be presented:
🔹 H₂ Material Integrity and Safety.
🔹 Inspection and Testing for Hydrogen Pipelines.

The session will also explore how these units are supported by technical manuals, industrial case studies and Augmented Reality scenarios, helping learners connect specialist knowledge with realistic inspection challenges. Pilot activities carried out within the project will provide another important part of the discussion. Their results will offer practical insights into how hydrogen-specific content, digital resources and immersive tools can be integrated into structured training environments.

Rather than focusing only on new technologies, the INSPIRE- Revolutionising Training in Welding Inspection for Hydrogen Pipelines contribution will address a broader question: how can training providers prepare inspection professionals for the technical and safety requirements of Europe's developing hydrogen infrastructure?
