INSPIRE: Project Presentation at 78th IIW Annual Assembly

INSPIRE - Revolutionising Training in Welding Inspection for Hydrogen Pipelines at IIW 2025 – Advancing Welding Training for Hydrogen Infrastructure. Today, the INSPIRE project was proudly presented at the 78th Annual Assembly and International Conference of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) in Genoa.

As part of Commission XI – Pressure Vessels, Boilers and Pipelines, the session on Hydrogen-Relevant Research featured the keynote presentation: "Advancing Welding Instruction for Hydrogen Pipelines: A Needs Analysis Validation Approach".

🔹 Delivered by Georgia Kolyva, CEO of the WELDING GREEK INSTITUTE - WGI Among other things, this presentation showed the results of INSPIRE Work Package 2 - a detailed validation of the needs analysis that identifies the skills profile and digitalisation potential of Welding Inspectors working on the construction and inspection of hydrogen (H₂) pipelines.

The INSPIRE project, co-funded by Erasmus+ (KA220-VET), aims to:
🔹 Modernise the European Welding Inspector qualification.
🔹 Address labour market demands in the hydrogen sector.
🔹 Promote AR-based training.
🔹 Support climate goals and digital transformation.

This intervention marks a key milestone in ensuring the new modularised qualification framework is aligned with industry standards, EU policy on green energy, and the future skills agenda.
